Multiple wildfires in and around Yakima County is bringing a lot of smoke into the Yakima Valley. The Yakima Health District said breathing in that wildfire smoke isn't healthy for anyone. As of Monday, in the Lower Valley, the air quality is unhealthy for sensitive groups, meaning the elderly, children and those with asthma should limit their time outdoors. In Yakima and the Upper Valley the air quality is moderate, meaning those with health conditions should take precautions. The Yakima Health District said the smoky air can cause health problems, with symptoms such as a sore throat, headaches, teary eyes, shortness of breath or chest pains. Spokesperson Nathan Johnson said if the air quality becomes unhealthy, it is best for people to stay indoors.
