One person is in the hospital after 41 firefighters responded to a major structure fire in Walla Walla on Thursday morning. The fire broke out at 622 W. Poplar St. at 2:36 a.m., and two people were inside of the home.
Firefighters were able to force entry and help one person out of the home right away. However, a second person was still inside in a back bedroom, and smoke and heat kept firefighters from getting to that person for about 15 minutes.
Medics performed resuscitation on that person, and the victim was taken to Providence Saint Mary Medical Center.
There were no injuries to firefighters. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
