With the most dangerous wildfire season anticipated for the entire state, crews over at Yakima County Fire District 5 were getting their hands dirty, training to fight deadly and devastating wildfires.
“With the potential of this year’s fire season, they're gonna step up and between the structure fires, aid calls, and the wildland fires, these guys are gonna do a lot of good work and save a lot of people," said Yakima County Fire District Five Captain Dave Martin.
Martin says this go around, YCFD5 has a good amount of people volunteering to be on the front lines of fire, like newcomer MaryAnna Romero.
“It’s something that is really big to take on, but it’s something I feel very comfortable taking on, because it’s like it’s something you can do to change something. You can really go out and save someone’s life," said Romero.
