Just one of two people who lived in a Gig Harbor duplex made it out alive from a fire Wednesday night.
Thursday morning, firefighters found the body of a woman who could not escape the flames on the second floor of her home.
The fire was reported around 11:30 p.m. when neighbors started frantically calling 911 for help. When firefighters arrived at the 3900 block of Firdona Drive NW, the fire was already fully involved and they were getting reports that someone was still inside, says Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One Division Chief Eric Waters.
"As soon as we received info that we had a someone missing, we did request a 2nd alarm to get additional resources to help us out with this incident," Waters said.
Neighbors on this dead-end street are a close-knit group. Tom Rogers lives across the street from the duplex that burned. When he spotted the flames, he said he grabbed a hose, since their homes are surrounded by woods and bushes.
