Rainier firefighters extinguished a fire burning at a house on Old Rainier Road Monday morning.
Fire crews were dispatched to the 28000 block of Old Rainier Road around 8:30 a.m. Monday after reports of smoke on the hillside, according to Columbia River Fire & Rescue. The fire had consumed an old house and was threatening another home, a barn and a shed, according to a press release. There were two “frightened but curious” cows in the barn which were unharmed. The building had been vacant for at least the last several months and was being used to store hay and auto parts, according to the release. The building was a complete loss but there were no injuries. The cause is believed to be electrical, according to Columbia River Fire & Rescue.
