Senator Maria Cantwell visited the Spokane Fire Department Training Center Wednesday morning to talk about the Wildfire Management Technology Advancement Act. The Act was signed into law by the President last week. The law includes provisions to analyze trends to prevent firefighter injuries, improve predictions of areas likely to experience large wildfires, and assign smoke forecasters to all large wildfires to ensure the health and safety of people in impacted areas. Cantwell watched a demonstration of the thermal camera capabilities of the SFD's drone and how it helps firefighters better track fires in the area.
