The Mount Vernon Fire Department and the American Red Cross will be installing free smoke alarms this weekend.
Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, volunteers with the American Red Cross and fire department personnel will be in the Mountain View and Evergreen mobile home communities installing smoke detectors.
On March 16, the two organizations installed 73 smoke alarms in 32 homes in the Park Village neighborhood, according to a news release from the city of Mount Vernon.
“One simple thing our community members can do to improve their chance of surviving a fire in their home or business is have a working smoke alarm,” said Mount Vernon Fire Chief Bryan Brice. “We want to make sure that our most at-risk members, those with mobility difficulties, have that.”
