VIDEO: A bouncy house at Zillah High School event was carried more than 240 feet by a gust of wind, injuring four students and leaving another in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency responders received a report about an incident on the Zillah football field at 2:35 p.m., said city fire chief Paul Stonemetz. A “strong whirlwind” picked up and flipped a bouncy house on the football field with five students inside, lifting it 10-20 feet into the air and carrying it at least 240 feet. Stonemetz said it was unknown whether the bouncy house had been anchored to the ground.
One student received CPR and shock treatment before being airlifted to Astria Regional Medical Center in Yakima in critical condition.
Another four students sustained minor injuries to the knee, ankle, rib and a possible concussion, he said.
