An 11-year old Aberdeen resident is being praised for their quick thinking after finding a fire in a bedroom yesterday morning.
Battalion Chief Dave Golding said in a press release they were called to the 100 block of North West Boulevard in South Aberdeen just after 11 am Monday. The 911 caller was an 11-year-old who had noticed the smell of smoke and found the fire in a bedroom. Golding said the child closed the bedroom door and evacuated the house, calling 911 from the neighbors, adding that those actions helped to contain the fire and the resulting damage to the single room.
No injuries were reported, and those damages were estimated at about $3,500.
Golding said with the dual response from Hoquiam Fire, 11 firefighters brought the fire under control within 12 minutes of the 911 call.
