An app that's credited with saving lives in Benton and Franklin counties has received funding for another year.
The Kadlec Foundation and Lourdes Foundation provided $4,000 respectively to go towards PulsePoint. The app was launched in this region exactly one year ago Tuesday.
"It's something that we're pretty proud of here in Richland to have played a pretty big part in bringing it to our area," said Captain Stein Karspeck with the Richland Fire Department, who headed efforts to bring the app to this area. "But we definitely want to thank Kadlec and Lourdes for making it happen."
The app sends out alerts for various emergencies, and it notifies users when someone is going into cardiac arrest nearby and needs CPR. As of last month, 4,238 users had downloaded the app. However, only 2,442 had enabled CPR alerts, and that is a number fire officials want to change.
"We want the public to come out and help us," said Ben Shearer with the Pasco Fire Department.
