A escaped orchard burn that developed into a brush fire was contained near Chelan Butte Wednesday. Lake Chelan Fire & Rescue Chief Tim Lemon said Chelan County Fire District 8 from Entiat and Chelan County Fire District 7 from Chelan crews were dispatched just before noon when the orchard burn got out of containment and spread into a gully filled with orchard prunings. The fire was located up the Chelan Butte Road off Stayman Flats Road. Lemon credited a quick response aided by Forest Service, Department of Natural Resources and Bureau of Land Management personnel in controlling the fire by 1:15pm. The fire was mostly contained in a gully between two orchards, but firefighters kept the flames from advancing north and traveling up the Chelan Butte.
