A KIMA investigation has found several flaws in our ambulance system. We looked into why several fire chiefs are accusing paramedics of prioritizing hospital-to-hospital transports over 911 calls. The Yakima fire department saying this can put your life at risk. For the most part, paramedics deny it. However, the fire department says they have evidence and data to back the claim. We spoke one paramedic who says the problem is real. Just a few weeks ago, paramedics responded to a crash where a woman was trapped and injured after her car careened into a ditch in Wapato.
Paramedics saved her, as what you’d expect them to do.
But Yakima Fire Chief Markham says responding to those calls may not always be their priority.
