A fire destroyed a chicken coop at a Ridgefield home Monday morning, according to Clark County Fire and Rescue. Firefighters were dispatched at 10:31 a.m. to 802 S. Shobert St., for a report of a shop or barn fire. The first engine to arrive reported a 10-by-10 foot outbuilding, with flames extending from the structure and threatening a home about 15 feet away, according to the scanner. The fire was under control within 10 minutes and did not reach the home, according to the scanner. Three fire engines and a ladder truck responded. Clark County Fire and Rescue Chief John Nohr said the chicken coop was destroyed. The residents had a camera and lights installed in the coop to keep an eye on their chickens. The equipment likely malfunctioned and caused the fire, Nohr said.
