The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to a commercial fire at the Spokane Industrial Park Monday evening after a Powdertech employee smelled smoke inside a building. Firefighters saw smoke coming off the roof of the building on North Sullivan Road when they arrived shortly after 7 p.m., bringing a total of 13 fire vehicles and support from Spokane County Fire District 9, according to a news release. Powdertech provides custom sandblasting, painting and powder-coating services, according to its website. Sprinklers in the building activated, keeping the fire contained to an area around two ovens, according to a news release. The fire appeared to originate from a pallet and metal containers on top of the larger of the two ovens, resulting in abundant smoke.
