A 5-year-old boy is credited with alerting his great-aunt and mother to a fire that destroyed their Wiley City home Wednesday morning. Diana Espinoza said she was in her home in the 10700 block of Rockstrom Road around 9:30 a.m. when she said she heard what sounded like tapping at her door. “As soon as I got up, the little boy said there is a fire,” Espinoza said. She, her niece and her great-nephew, Mister Carpino, were able to escape the house. Mister said he was watching TV when he heard crackling noise outside the house. “I opened the door and looked out and saw there was fire,” Mister said. “The washing machine was on fire.” Espinoza said the dryer was on the porch of the home, and she thought the outlet it was plugged into was sparking when she spotted the fire. Mister said he was scared, but went to get his family of the house.
