Firefighters worked to put out a fire on Sunday afternoon after a controlled burn got out of control.
Around 1:30 p.m., Benton County Fire District #1 responded to a home near Havana Street and E 45 Pr SE. When they arrived, a two-car garage was engulfed in flames.
Crews worked to extinguish the fire as it started to spread to other areas on the homeowner's property.
According to Battalion Chief Don Taylor, the homeowner was burning weeds in a small brush fit. As it was burning, the homeowner went inside to eat. That's when the fire got out of control, Taylor said.
The two-car garage was destroyed. Taylor said a recently paid off Mazda Miata was destroyed along with a new Toyota Tacoma. Nearby, an outbuilding and two buses were damaged along with the home's overhang.
Flames spread to some brush, burning an eighth of an acre.
