The Walla Walla City Council will hear a presentation about improvements needed to the current fire department drill site and structures when it meets for its work session Monday at 4 p.m. WWFD Chief Bob Yancey and Captain John Knowles will be making the presentation. The current facility, which is near Washington Park, southwest of West Cherry Street and North Ninth Avenue was built in the early 1970s and has served area fire departments for over 45 years. The four-story masonry tower has been utilized for live fire training since it was built and those repeated drills have caused structural damage, mainly to the interior of the tower which has been repaired several times over its lifetime.
