One person was killed Tuesday morning in a fiery crash on an Interstate 405 exit ramp in Kirkland, the Washington State Patrol reports.
Traffic backups reportedly are forming in the area, where road closures and lane closures are in effect.
Troopers and firefighters responded to the scene, the exit ramp from northbound I-405 to NE 128th Street, at about 10:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash.
A van was found fully ablaze. Firefighters extinguished the flames and the driver was pronounced dead. No other information was immediately available about the driver.
A preliminary investigation found that the van struck a vehicle earlier on northbound I-405 and sped away from the scene. The van then took the exit ramp to 128th Street, blew through the intersection, slammed into a wall and erupted in flames, Trooper Rick Johnson reported.
