A gutsy Good Samaritan who just happened to be passing by rescued an elderly woman from her home as it erupted in flames Wednesday morning in Silverdale, fire officials said. The drama unfolded at around 7:15 a.m. as a man who was taking his son to school spotted flames and smoke coming from the woman's home in the 10000 block of Frontier Place NW, said Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue spokesperson Ileana LiMarzi. The man stopped and ran to the home. He got the sole occupant, an elderly woman, out of the burning home then ran and alerted neighbors. Firefighters responded to the scene and found the home fully ablaze. By 8 a.m. crews brought the fire under control, but were still working to douse hot spots and extinguish the flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
