As Hurricane Dorian slowly crawls across the Bahamas pounding the Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama, volunteers from the Northwest are standing by ready to help.
Just 100 miles away on the Southeastern coast of Florida, it’s a waiting game to see where and if Dorian will make landfall.
“We are just starting to experience the first outer bands of the hurricane here in Orlando,” said Sil Wong, who is leading a team from Kitsap County based Empact Northwest. On Monday the group of five, plus a canine, visited several emergency operation centers around Central Florida’s Orange and Brevard Counties.
“That’s what we’ve been spending the last couple of days doing, just establishing contacts so these counties know what resources they have once the hurricane hits,” said Wong.
