PHOTOS: Saturday’s lightning storm sparked a small wildfire near Eagle Lake on Orcas Island early Sunday morning.
A 10 foot-by-10-foot area of fire burned multiple trees, brush and root beds just after midnight Sunday, according to Orcas Island Fire.
Some 200 gallons of water and three hours later, six fire crews had the fire under control.
Crews on scene also experienced poor radio communications, an issue Orcas Island Fire hopes to resolve in the future.
“It’s an issue that the district is working on a solution for,” said Public Information Officer Kimberley Kimple. “With patients and personnel out there in life and death situations, it’s imperative we find resolve sooner than later.”
