A firefighter suffered a burned hand Thursday evening as he fought a fire in Kent that burned two structures and left a house cat dead and a family of five displaced. Crews from Puget Sound Fire were called to a house on fire in the 15000 block of SE 274th Place in Kent just after 5:45 p.m., according to department spokesperson Joe Root. Firefighters reported seeing a large column of smoke from several blocks away as the approached, and when they arrived firefighters found a single-story double wide mobile home with an attached carport engulfed in flames, Root said. Flames had begun to spread to the home next door, and a second alarm was called for additional firefighting help as firefighters were essentially fighting two house fires, Root said. Firefighters put out the flames in about 30 minutes.
