Evacuations for Bartholomew Fire in Medical Lake lowered to Level 2

Containment of the Bartholomew Fire in Medical Lake grew to 80% as of Friday morning, according to the Washington Department of Natural Resources. The fire is now 200 acres since it began burning near Bartholomew Road and Highway 902 on Thursday afternoon. DNR officials said the cause is unknown. The fire burned 50 acres on Fairchild Air Force Base, according to DNR. Fire crews hope to have the fire contained by Saturday. One home and three outbuildings have been lost in the fire, according to Guy Gifford with DNR. Level 3 evacuations were downgraded to a Level 2 for residents between Bartholomew and and Welcome Roads north of Highway 902. Level 2 means be ready to leave at a moment's notice. Thursday night, crews started mopping up the perimeter and provided structure protection for homes in the area, Gifford said. On Friday, crews will be securing the fire perimeter by reinforcing control lines and mopping up 100 feet around the perimeter of the fire.
