VIDEO: A three-alarm fire ripped through a Skyway apartment building early Wednesday, sending towering flames into the sky and forcing everyone inside to evacuate in the predawn darkness. Twenty-four apartment units were destroyed in the raging inferno, and one man was rushed to the hospital. Crews from multiple fire districts responded to the scene, the Greentree Apartment Homes on South 125th Street, at around 1:50 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke and flames billowing from the building, officials said. One apartment in the building was fully ablaze when the first crews arrived and the flames were already spreading to other units through the attic. More crews were called in to battle the blaze as the roof collapsed. Firefighters were unable to save any of the units in that building but quick action prevented the fire from spreading to other nearby apartment buildings, fire officials said.
