Spokane firefighters put out what they believe was a cooking-related fire in a Lincoln Heights home early Saturday morning. According to Spokane County Fire District 8, firefighters responded to the home in the 4200 block of East 28th Ave shortly after 3 a.m. There, they found fire coming from behind the stove and extending into the attic. Crews were able to knock down the fire quickly without anyone getting injured. Firefighters later learned one of the homeowners had put out a fire earlier in the evening while cooking. They woke later that night to the smell of smoke, which is when they told firefighters they saw a “flickering” coming from behind the stove. There were four adults and multiple pets in the home at the time. They are currently being assisted by the Red Cross, Spokane Co. Fire District 8 said. There were no working smoke detectors in the house, firefighters said.
