A false alert about a 'radiological hazard' in Washington state went out to some television viewers in Jefferson County Thursday night. The Jefferson County Emergency Operations Center said the false alarm was distributed to an unknown number of Wave cable customers and may be the work of hackers who accessed Wave's cable system. There is no known radiological incident in Jefferson County. A screengrab sent to KING 5 shows what appeared on some television screens: a 'Radiological Hazard Warning' issued for all of Washington state, effective until February 20, 8:40 p.m. PST. The message is false, according to Emergency Operations Public Information Officer Keppie Keplinger. The Emergency Operations Center sent a follow-up text alert that said, "This appears to have been an error, and is being investigated."
