Cowlitz County Department of Emergency Management lifted a shelter-in-place advisory overnight for residents living within a two-mile radius of an industrial fire in Longview. Thursday night, fire officials asked residents in the area to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed.
The two-alarm fire is at J M Huber Corporation, which is at 3400 Industrial Way. It started just before 9 p.m. As of 4:30 a.m. Friday morning, Industrial Way was still closed from Washington Way to Prudential Boulevard for the investigation. The intersection of Weber Avenue and Hoehne Avenue is also closed.
Officials say the fire affected air quality in the area Thursday night. But as of 1:30 a.m. Friday, the department of emergency management said air monitors did not detect sodium hypochlorite, better known as chlorine bleach, beyond 100 yards from the fire scene. This is what allowed them to lift the shelter-in-place advisory.
