Spokane firefighters were raising money at River Park Square on Saturday for the fight to beat cancer.
In March, those firefighters will climb 69 floors, wearing 60-pound gear, to honor one of their own.
John Knighten served as a firefighter with Spokane’s Fire Department for almost two decades before losing his battle with cancer. He was just 45.
“We’re doing just a little bit to have a spectacle, an event that is fun to take part in and it makes us feel good that we’re raising a lot of money for people who are fighting blood cancers. While we’re suffering just a little bit, they’re trying to fight for their lives,” said Jesse Ayotte, a firefighter.
The firefighters were at River Park Square on Saturday, raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
