Douglas County Fire District 2 crews responded to a brush fire call that was quickly changed to a structure fire in the 300 block of South Kent Court in East Wenatchee around 1:00 pm Friday. Chief Dave Baker says that when crews first arrived, an unidentified Central Washington Asphalt employee was in a water tender spraying water onto arborvitae trees that were ablaze. “We believe it was a juvenile playing with matches in the backyard. It’s a reminder to keep young children away from matches and whatnot, and keep them supervised. Also, even though arborvitae trees are green, they are wicked when it comes to burning.” There were no injuries. Minor damage was reported on the home where the incident began as well as a neighboring residence.
