Chelan County Sheriff’s Office High Angle Rope Rescue, as well as Chelan County Fire District 1, aided four hikers stuck near the Chelan Falls Overlook Monday evening. The report came in around 5 p.m. that four men hiking ended up stranded on rocks at the bottom of the gorge in the river due to the water flow changing. “That (water flow changing) can happen in the Chelan gorge this time of year without notice,” said Chief Jason Reinfeld. The gorge in this area is about 400 feet deep, according to Chief Reinfeld. Responding agencies hiked down to the bottom of the gorge on steep trails and after cooperation from Chelan PUD to lower the water level, a ladder was used as a bridge to get the hikers off the rock.
