After reporting zero new coronavirus deaths Sunday state health officials said there were six new deaths associated with COVID-19 Monday while a series of protests over George Floyd's death erupted in many cities across Washington during the weekend.
The Washington Department of Health reported 21,977 COVID-19 cases in the state and 1,124 deaths, an increase of six from Sunday.
Officials said 3,517 people have been hospitalized because of the deadly virus.
King County's coronavirus cases reached 8,123 cases Monday, with 569 deaths according to health officials. 21,977 case
332 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Sunday, marking the highest daily increase since May 1, when 357 new cases were confirmed.
Health officials did not have an immediate explanation for the increase in the number of new confirmed cases, but it is happening as many counties are moving to Phase 2 of the economic reopening plan, which allows for greater social contact.
