Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and police Chief Carmen Best met behind closed doors Wednesday with demonstrators who have been participating in protests that have gripped the city. The meeting came one day after Durkan addressed a sizable crowd of protesters and pledged to meet with their representatives in order to forge consensus in the wake of the death of George Floyd, who died nine days ago at the hands of four Minneapolis police officers. During the meeting, the mayor said she welcomed the session. "I'm glad you're here with new energy and energized voices," Durkan said. "And that every voice in this room and every voice here today was critical for me to hear."
