The coronavirus claimed six more lives in Washington state over the past 24 hours as it continued its relentless assault amid the economic reopening of most counties and ongoing mass protests against racism and police brutality.
The additional fatalities pushed the statewide death toll from coronavirus to 1,159. But in a sign of hope, no new deaths were reported Sunday in King, Pierce or Snohomish counties.
Meanwhile, 284 more new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Washington since the day before. On Saturday, state health officials counted 442 new cases - the biggest single-day jump in new confirmed cases in nearly two months.
The new cases pushed the statewide total since the beginning of the pandemic to 23,729.
