The City of Goldendale has maintained its insurance rating with the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau (WSRB) at a Protection Class 6. The classification follows an analysis conducted by WSRB, an independent, non-profit public service organization that has been serving the State of Washington since 1911. The in-depth analysis is conducted every five years to determine a community’s protection class. WSRB uses a grading schedule and measures the fire protection capabilities of a community in four major areas by means of a point system. The four areas are water supply (35 percent of total), fire department (40 percent of total), fire safety control (16 percent of total), and emergency communications (9 percent of total). These four areas are evaluated and scored independently of each other. The scores are then combined in a final calculation to determine the Protection Class for the community.
