A man was arrested Saturday night after deputies say he took them on a “hot pursuit” in Pierce County.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, deputies tried to pull over a BMW around 11 p.m. after it was seen speeding in Parkland.
Deputies said at one point during the pursuit, the BMW sped out of sight. Less than a minute later, a deputy spotted it heading eastbound onto Military Road in the Spanaway area.
Extra deputies joined in on the pursuit, and deputies said they saw smoke and sparks coming from the car.
Officials said the deputy leading the pursuit performed a Pursuit Intervention Technique – causing the BMW to safely spin and stop.
“The driver put his hands in the air and was quickly removed from the vehicle as the large amounts of smoke began to come out from under the hood,” a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release.
