A 12-year-old boy escaped a house fire by climbing out of a second-story window and onto the roof of the home Wednesday in Centralia, officials said. The incident unfolded just after noon at the boy's home on Kulien Avenue. The boy was home alone when flames broke out and woke him up. Apparently his only way of escape was through an upstairs window. He clambered out onto the roof and then was helped down by a neighbor. Firefighters arrived and extinguished the flames. The family dog was rescued from the home and is in good condition, but the family's cat perished. No firefighters were hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
