A man was seriously injured and several others are now left homeless after a two-alarm fire burned an apartment complex in Lakewood Monday morning.
Firefighters were called to the Pacific Ridge Apartments on Lincoln Ave. SW around 2 a.m. and arrived to find several units burning, said Jenny Weekes with West Piece Fire & Rescue.
As about 45 firefighters battled the blaze, some residents had to be checked by medics, with one man found to have serious injuries. He was taken to a local hospital with stable vital signs, Weekes said.
Firefighters said neighbors raced to wake each other up as the flames erupted.
Robbie Alexander said his neighbor came to his rescue because she knew he was asleep.
"I was sleeping and I heard someone beating on my window like they were about to break it," said Alexander, who then noticed his apartment was filled with smoke.
