Thanks to a long-standing partnership with MOHAI, every year, Seattle Fire marks the anniversary of the Great Seattle Fire of 1889. The fire destroyed a large portion of downtown Seattle back then, but more importantly, led to the rise of a city-wide firefighting force, mandated changes to prevent future building fires, and authorized gear and equipment to protect firefighters from deadly heat and flames. Today's Fire Day emphasizes what parents and caregivers can do to teach their children how to stay safe and prevent fire at home or at play – a need perhaps felt even more as Seattle remains in Phase I of the COVID-19 re-opening.
