Vancouver Fire Department (VFD) crews were dispatched to the structure fire at 3409 NE 62nd Ave. 3:48 a.m. Sunday. In addition to the initial alarm, a second alarm was struck. The first units on scene arrived with a five-minute response, despite the fact that it was the second structure fire of the shift for many of the crews.
The first-arriving crews were able to see fire from down the street. Upon arrival, crews were able to knock down the fire on the first and second floor apartments while at the same time completing searches and evacuating the remaining units in the building. After 37 minutes of battling the blaze, the fire was deemed to be under control. The building was saved and the second alarm was canceled.
VFD had 27 crew members on scene.
