A Bremerton firefighter was flown to Harborview Medical Center with a leg injury Saturday after being pinned between two cars while performing a medical evaluation on a suspected impaired driver.
The firefighter, 50, was called to Washington Avenue near its bend on 11th Street about 2 a.m. to evaluate a driver who'd struck a parked car, according to Bremerton Assistant Fire Chief John Payne. While reaching into the car to perform an evaluation on the driver, it suddenly lunged in reverse. The car hit a parked police cruiser and pinned the firefighter, breaking his right leg.
The firefighter, who has been with the department for about 20 years, had surgery to repair his leg Sunday, Payne said.
