Washington is the best state to work in during the COVID-19 pandemic according to a new report released Wednesday by Oxfam America. The report looks at how states are helping working and unemployed families during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is broken down into three categories: worker protections, healthcare, and unemployment support. These three categories include measures in place to protect workers from COVID-19, protection against forced return to work, childcare for essential workers, healthcare coverage for workers and people who have lost their jobs during the pandemic and support available for those who are unemployed including moratoriums on evictions and utilities shut offs. All the data is based on policies and laws in effect in each state and territory between February 15, 2020 to July 1, 2020. Washington has the highest overall score on the list followed by New Jersey, California, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York. The state ranked second on the list for worker protections, first for unemployment support, and 10th for healthcare.
