A fire at the front door of a Washington State Patrol trooper’s house in Nooksack is being investigated as arson, said Chief Daniel MacPhee of the Everson Police Department. “The investigation is ongoing,” he said. This is McPhee’s account of what happened: Shortly before 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, neighbors noticed a fire at the front entrance of the residence. One person called 911 while another attacked the fire with a garden hose and kept it “isolated to a floor mat and the door.” Firefighters arrived and made sure the fire was fully out. Then Everson police, who cover Nooksack also, began their investigation. “Because of the neighbors’ quick action, the fire did not spread to the rest of the building,” MacPhee said. The incident is being treated as arson, and that is the extent of the details that can be given out, he said on Monday.
