The Seattle Fire Department says a fire that broke out early Saturday morning at a new construction building in South Seattle was intentionally set. Just after 3 a.m. Saturday, crews responded to reports of smoke and flames from a mid-rise new construction building at the 2000 block of Rainier Ave. S. When crews arrived on scene, the fire was upgraded to a 2-alarm fire. It took crews over two hours to extinguish the fire and hotspots which had spread throughout the lower floors of the two six-story buildings that were connected in a U-shape design. The total estimated loss is $3 million, Seattle Fire says. Detectives from the Seattle Police Department’s Arson and Bomb Squad are investigating the fire. Anyone with information is asked to call the tip line. Around 4:30 a.m. firefighters received another report of smoke and flames from the top story and roof of an unoccupied building in the 300 block of Bellevue Ave E in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood.
