Flames were seen shooting in the air as a two-alarm fire burned on the rooftop of a 6-story building in West Seattle on Saturday evening. Fire crews were called after 6:30 p.m. to the 3200 block of Southwest Avalon Way. It is not yet known what started the fire as crews worked to gain control of the fire and worked to put out hot spots. Residents inside of the building were told to shelter in place as the fire was contained to the rooftop. No injuries were reported. Fire officials said there was water damage on the six floor, displacing people in 10 unites. The American Red Cross was contacted to help those without a place to stay. Fire investigators ruled the cause as “undetermined” due to multiple possible ignition sources. The total loss is estimated to be $500,000. This was the second two-alarm fire at a six-story building in the city.
