A wildfire near Auburn continues to burn Tuesday morning, and now it's threatening several homes and prompting evacuation notices.
The Green Valley fire began Sunday afternoon when gusty winds pushed a burn pile beyond control. It's since grown to 50 acres, and residents in nearby homes are now under Level 2 evacuation orders, meaning they should stay somewhere else or ready to leave at a moment's notice.
The fire is in a difficult spot to fight, with dense trees and steep terrain. “The hard part with this fire is that it got up into the hillside and there are areas that are not accessible by a fire engine, brush truck and being able to stretch hose line,” said Pat Pawlack, spokesperson for the local fire response.
