Kitsap County is working to acquire land in Silverdale currently in the hands of DNR, and Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue is also eying the land as a possible location for a new station.
The forested 27-acre DNR parcel near Clear Creek was slated to be traded to a developer to generate revenue for the state’s Common School Trust. But after outcry from the public in 2019, the transaction was canceled. Now the county is working on a plan for the land, which could include amenities like affordable housing, protection of Clear Creek Trail, areas for school use and perhaps a new fire station.
CKFR’s $58.3 million capital facilities plan, passed by voters in November, calls for rebuilding Station 51, located at 10955 Silverdale Way NW. However, that causes an issue, said CKFR Chief John Oliver. Replacing the state on-site would mean the area is without a fire station on Silverdale Way for up to 18 months.
