Firefighters rescued nine dogs from a fire that destroyed a house in Stevens County Thursday morning. Stevens County Fire District 1 says a person passing by along Redman Road noticed smoke and flames in the house and called firefighters. Fire District 1, Spokane Fire District 4 and Deer Park Ambulance arrived to put the fire out. Crews arrived and got the flames under control—fire officials say the flames when up into the attic and began sagging the entire house. Officials say the house is a total loss. During the fire operation, rescuers went into the house—no people were home, but they found nine dogs inside and caught them to safety. One pup was found hiding under a bed by a secondary search crew.
