Crews set controlled fires on Bethel Ridge on Wednesday evening to prevent the Schneider Springs Fire from moving south. The burn was scheduled for earlier in the day Wednesday but was postponed because conditions were not ideal. Firefighters hoped to continue the firing operation Thursday, but conditions were not favorable, fire information officer Kate White said. The burn could take multiple days to complete. “Firefighters took advantage of the cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity through the evening hours to methodically put fire on the ridge to begin to contain the southern portion of the fire and prevent the fire from moving south toward critical infrastructure and Naches,” the fire report said. The Schneider Springs Fire, 18 miles northwest of Naches, grew 1,496 acres from Wednesday to Thursday.
