The coroner confirms they've identified a burned body, three weeks after it was mysteriously found in the middle of a brush fire. Earlier this month as fire crews fought a blaze near Windy Point campground, and discovered a body in a burned area of brush. How the fire started and what the man was doing before he died remain unclear. Coroner Jim Curtice says after weeks of no luck discovering who he was, they were able to compare x-rays of on a extensive foot surgery, and have confirmed the man was 53-year-old Van Blankenship. "He had some surgery on one of his feet that had pretty significant hardware in it, and the forensic anthropologist for the King County Medical Examiner's Office was able to confirm the two x-rays and confirm that indeed was the deceased person," says Curtice.
