Warmer temperatures across much of Western Washington this week have ignited growing concerns among some firefighters about the threat that brush fires and wildfires could pose as the summer months near.
Residents of one neighborhood near Bonney Lake were jolted Monday when a small brush fire broke out just below Highway 410, the same location impacted by a devastating wildfire last September during which several hundred acres of land between Bonney Lake and Sumner burned. The Sumner Grade Fire destroyed several homes.
"I just walked out the front door, and I saw the fire engines all along up there, and I saw the firefighters tamping down a burn spot," said Linda Baer, a resident of the area about the small brush fire that broke out Monday. "I just was scared out of my mind to potentially have to relive the fire from last September."
